Shaping New AI Policy in the U.S.
By Gus Coldebella, February 13, 2025
The development of a new federal AI policy has begun. The Trump administration has requested ideas from the public on its AI Action Plan—a framework that will influence the direction of U.S. federal AI regulation for at least the next four years.
As outlined in the recent AI executive order, the administration is prioritizing innovation and national security, seeking to maintain America’s lead in AI development. Notably, it aims to ensure that “unnecessarily burdensome requirements do not hamper private sector AI innovation.”
At True Ventures, it’s important to us that the voice of the startup founder is heard, because – while they’re an engine of innovation, economic growth, and job creation in this country – their voices are often muted in policy debates, which tend to be dominated by big tech.
To help change that, we’ll be submitting a response highlighting how startups are key to America’s AI future and I welcome conversations with founders who have insights to share. Your views can meaningfully shape the administration’s final product, including rules that affect the ability of startups to compete in this market, and the ability of the U.S. to stay the world leader in AI.
Bottom line: Those shaping policy should hear from the people actually building the technology.
