As we’ve discussed (here and here), the current rate of change in enterprise infrastructure is at an unprecedented high—as is the level of excitement. This week for example, we’re among over 8,000 attendees at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas, along with a number of True portfolio companies.

While cloud computing is bringing a ton of efficiency and agility to enterprises, there are also a lot of components that make it a “black box” of sorts. As datacenters are growing incredibly fast, they are also breaking incredibly fast. Security vulnerabilities are at an all-time high, because so many touch points can create havoc and because of the increasing dependency on APIs. The market is ripe for a company that can address these vulnerabilities within increasingly complex cloud environments.

Enter Evident.io, which is launching today at AWS re:Invent. Founded by Tim Prendergast and his Co-Founder Justin Lundy, Evident.io is a “cloud first” security company, focused entirely on the security challenges arising from the adoption and use of programmatic infrastructure at all levels of scale. Evident.io democratizes the security capabilities of billion-dollar cloud giants for the masses, making security approachable and manageable for businesses of all sizes. Their platform provides businesses with an analysis of distributed resource security mechanisms in all phases of their infrastructure lifecycle, giving them insight into what changed, when it changed, and if undue risk or exposure has occurred in their complex cloud environments.

As True began to invest in the enterprise infrastructure space back in 2010, we strived to fund the inventors, creators and experts in the field, which led to investments in the architects of Cloud Foundry, Cassandra, Dynamo, OpenStack, Vagrant, Puppet, Basho, Arbor Networks and more. Tim is part of this elite group, an industry veteran of 15+ years who designed and secured the underlying infrastructure supporting the Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem—a billion-dollar business operating entirely on top of Amazon Web Services. His Co-Founder, Justin, was the security architect responsible for defending Adobe’s Creative Cloud ecosystem. Both Tim and Justin bring a depth of understanding around scaling on cloud infrastructure that others have yet to experience.

In another great example of Founders introducing Founders, we were introduced to Tim and Justin by Tony Falco, Founder and CEO of another one of True’s “.io” investments, Orchestrate.io. Tony had previously worked with Tim, and was passionate that Tim was someone he would absolutely bet on. This high regard for Tim extended outside the True network as well—during a reference call about Tim, one of his former colleagues told us, “What we constantly needed was ‘Tim as a Service.’”  Evident.io is the manifestation of this and we are beyond excited to have Tim and Justin as part of the True portfolio.

Tim and Justin, welcome to True!
