It’s well understood that growth in unstructured data is continuing at an incredible pace, and that the NoSQL movement is real. We at True are strong believers in this ecosystem and think that several category-leading companies will emerge. Recovery management, in particular, is a must-have for driving further adoption, which is why we are happy to welcome Datos IO to the True Ventures portfolio.

A number of billion dollar companies have already been created in and around recovery management in the structured data world. We think the same will be true on an even larger scale in the unstructured world, just given the sheer amount of data. Simply put, the world is moving in this direction, and we wanted to partner with the early leader in the space.

Datos IO was founded by technology vets Tarun Thakur and Prasenjit Sarkar, who were introduced to us by Avinash Lakshman, Founder of True Portfolio company Hedvig and creator of Cassandra and Dynamo. We believe Tarun and Prasenjit, as well as the team they have assembled, are uniquely suited to tackle such a difficult problem. Tarun, CEO, has a product strategy and systems technology background with over 10 patents granted. Most recently, he worked at Data Domain (EMC), where he led and delivered multiple product releases and new products delivering millions in incremental revenue. Prasenjit, CTO, has over 40 patents granted and was previously a Master Inventor at IBM Research, where he has delivered disruptive storage products across file systems, storage and big data.

We first invested in Datos IO over a year ago, leading their seed round when there was no product and two people. Over the last 15 months, Tarun and Prasenjit have built an incredible product and an exceptional team of technologists that have partners and early customers very excited. We are thrilled to partner with them on this journey to define and create a new category.
