Mike Montano

Mike joined True as a venture partner in 2023. He is the former founder of True Fund II company BackType, a social media analytics software company acquired by Twitter in 2011. Following the acquisition, Mike joined Twitter where he scaled its engineering function and team for over a decade, most recently as head of engineering. 

He invests in and advises startups from the earliest stage onward on product, technology, hiring, and creating high performing organizations. At True, he’s thrilled to extend his expertise to our founder community and help them build and scale exceptional teams and innovative businesses.

Mike and his family spend time enjoying the beach and mountain life in Santa Barbara — and city living in San Francisco. He is passionate about football (soccer), house music, and science fiction novels.
