Welcoming Hedvig
By Puneet Agarwal, March 26, 2015
I am very excited to finally be able to publicly welcome Avinash Lakshman and his company, Hedvig, to the True Ventures portfolio. True led the seed investment in Hedvig three years ago, and it has been a joy to watch Avinash build an amazing product and, now, launch his company.
Avinash has invented, architected and designed some of the core infrastructure for two of the most leading edge companies in the world—Amazon and Facebook. His unique skillset and experience have made him one of the foremost authorities on scalable and distributed systems. Specifically, at Facebook, where he spent four years, he invented and built Cassandra, a large-scale distributed storage system used by Facebook and many other large companies. While at Amazon, where he spent three years, he was part of the team that built Dynamo, Amazon’s internally developed storage engine that powers Amazon’s shopping cart and what later became the foundation for the NoSQL movement.
With Hedvig, Avinash is building scalable infrastructure software for cloud environments to operate at significantly lower costs without sacrificing performance. His goal is to bring true distributed systems capabilities to storage. We believe Avinash is leading the next generation of storage technology, and we couldn’t be happier to be partnering with him.
Avinash, welcome to True!
