Preserving Memories With Mylestone

The way we recall memories has changed at an exponential rate over the past few decades, and even more before that. From listening to grandparents’ stories, to flipping through photo albums, to scrolling through social media accounts collaged with real-time video, photos and dialogue, we can now re-visit moments in our lives and the lives of others as if we are watching our own Truman shows.
But we’ve only scratched the surface in terms of developing technology that allows us to access our multi-media memories in an on-demand way. And there are some exciting things brewing.
Mylestone, our newest portfolio company, is aiming to change that with its Alexa app, which turns photos, videos and audio files into playable narratives. The mobile platform preserves life’s most meaningful moments, an incredibly challenging product problem and opportunity.
For example, if I were to upload media from my recent trip to Tokyo, the Mylestone app would use A.I. and machine learning including object and facial recognition to create a story. I could then ask Alexa to recall the trip for me, and she’d tell me about the restaurants where I ate, the people I was with, and a number of other details based on photo metadata and more.
Mylestone CEO and Co-founder Dave Balter is a proven entrepreneur. We had the good fortune of partnering with Dave and his team at Smarterer, which was successfully acquired by Pluralsight, some years back. Prior to Smarterer, Dave founded BzzAgent, acquired by Tesco.
He is also a venture partner at Boston Seed Capital, a board member at Boch Center (supporting kids and the arts) and has authored several books on word-of-mouth marketing including Grapevine and The Word of Mouth Manual Volume II.
