We are thrilled to announce our recent investment in Piston Cloud Computing along side Hummer Winblad, Divergent Ventures and other prominent angels.

At True, we have been following OpenStack, the open source cloud operating system, very closely over the past year. What became clear quickly was that OpenStack was real and gaining momentum with developers in addition to large enterprises.  The project now includes over 80 participating companies, including Dell, Cisco, Citrix, and Rackspace, among others.

So when we had the opportunity to fund the lead architect behind its development, we jumped at the chance.  Founder and CEO, Josh McKenty was the lead architect behind NASA’s Nebula Cloud Infrastructure, which is now the basis for OpenStack.  As part of Piston, Josh has assembled an incredible team including Co-Founder, Chris MacGown, who previously was Technical Lead at SliceHost, which was acquired by Rackspace in 2008.

We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Josh and Chris, who bring a unique skillset and insight into the highly disruptive private cloud market.
