Congratulating TastemakerX

I am happy to announce that True portfolio company TastemakerX has been acquired by independent music streaming service Rdio, an acquisition that will further both companies’ missions to deliver the world’s best music experience.

True first invested in TastemakerX in the fall of 2011, and we were excited to partner with Co-Founders Marc Ruxin and Sandro Pugliese. Marc is one of the Valley’s most important tastemakers himself, consistently sharing his joy and talents for film, music, books and performances across the country. He is also one of the Valley’s strongest voices on the importance of art and music on our ecosystem and our society. TastemakerX was an effort to enable everyone to be a tastemaker and share their favorite music broadly through an app, by making their suggestions and selections of breaking bands, songs and artists more visible. The idea was powerful, and I am excited that it will be a part of Rdio’s future.

Marc and Sandro have become important threads in the True cultural fabric. They contributed immeasurably to the True Founder community, both providing and seeking guidance with clear values of openness and collaboration. They led by example, and impressed us with their unrivaled cultural sense and entrepreneurial creativity. It’s a rare combination, and Rdio is lucky to have them.
