Having founded both about.me and Sphere, Tony brings operational intel and startup leadership expertise to his partner role at True. He is a board member of the Tony Hawk Foundation, is an advisor to SF-based Noise Pop and was previously a T40 National Co-Chair of Technology for Obama.
Early in his career, Tony spent nine years abroad (India, France and Indonesia) with Groupe Danone, focusing on brand extension opportunities through mergers and acquisitions in Southeast Asia. He then joined VSP as a general partner, where he played an active role managing investments in Post Communications (NASDAQ: NTVS), Oddpost (acquired by Yahoo!) and Stonyfield Farms (acquired by Groupe Danone).
Tony grew up in a small Indiana farming community. He's worked a lot of jobs not listed on his resume, including short stints as a baseball umpire, basketball camp counselor, pharmacy stock person, high school sports reporter, book bindery glue machine operator, janitor, college newspaper ad salesman and yogurt merchandiser, to name a few. When he is not seeking out new opportunities for investment, you can find him communicating en français, making drip coffee, traveling or getting lucky with his enviable good parking karma. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in telecommunications, with a minor in business, from Indiana University.
