When was the last time you eagerly awaited the mail…when you looked forward to every delivery, just hoping that would be the day when something amazing arrived?

Zach Frechette discovered the “power of packages and the triumph of the postal service” as a kid in summer camp, when his mother sent him care packages containing well-concealed contraband like Skittles and gummy bears. With his company Quarterly Co.™, co-founded with Craig Shapiro, Zach is recapturing that feeling of surprise and serendipity—the nostalgic magic of receiving packages in the mail—for a much more sophisticated audience.

Subscribers to Quarterly Co. receive a package every quarter created by a contributor they have selected from a cache of influential artists, writers and designers like John Maeda, Alexis Ohanian and Mike Monteiro. Each package contains a narrative component, as well as several physical objects hand-picked by the contributor. Subscribers not only get some really cool stuff chosen by really interesting people, but they also get to relive the child-like glee of waiting for and receiving a package in the mail.

I received my first Quarterly Co. package a few weeks ago from “Cool Hunting” contributors Josh Rubin and Evan Orensten, and it was an amazing little collection.

I love Josh Rubin’s blog, and there was a certain intrigue and excitement to receiving items I knew he thought were special. Quarterly Co. gave me even further insight into an individual whom I consider a brilliant curator of all things cool. And yeah, it was really fun getting it in the mail.

When we at True Ventures first met Zach and Craig, Quarterly Co. was in the early stages of concept and development, but already had an impressive community of subscribers and quality, taste-making contributors. We loved their passion for recapturing the romance and impact of a well-crafted package, tied into existing online communities in an organic way. We were inspired by the way Quarterly Co. taps into the curated power of a personal brand, and could easily see how the combination of peoples’ hunger for insight combined with their desire to share their passions would inspire tremendous growth for the company.

Zach and Craig have worked together for a long time, and they are the perfect team to build this unique service. We are happy to partner with SV Angel, Scott Belsky, Brian Sugar and Ryan Jacoby, as well as Y Combinator partners Alexis Ohanian, Harj Taggar and Garry Tan in support of Quarterly Co.

Zach and Craig, welcome to the True family! We can’t wait for the mail to come.
