Applications Are Now Open for TEC 2013

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2013 True Entrepreneur Corps (TEC) summer fellowship program. Now in its fifth year, TEC was created not only to provide companies in the True portfolio with talented summer Fellows, but also to help expose college students to the complete entrepreneurial experience. These are the Founders, product managers, marketing leads and CFOs of tomorrow, and we believe it is an important part of our mission to help inspire young people to think creatively about future opportunities at companies like those with whom we’re fortunate to work.

Every summer, we invite 12 rising juniors and seniors in college to become TEC Fellows and match them up with True companies here in the Bay area. In 2009 (our first year) our Fellows were largely non-technical, and many had no previous exposure to startups. Since then, however, we’ve seen more and more students begin to explore startups and entrepreneurship while they’re still in school, and we’re delighted to provide an increasingly experienced group of them the opportunity to join our portfolio for the summer to continue their hands-on entrepreneurial education.

TEC is all about providing practical and in depth exposure to startups. The focus of the program is the four and a half days per week Fellows spend with their respective companies. Additionally, the group meets once a week for an afternoon at the True offices for a series of workshops and conversations with Founders and other creative thinkers. These weekly sessions provide a broader context to the work Fellows are otherwise doing with their companies, helping them better understand the entrepreneurial process broadly speaking and also digging into customer development, user acquisition, design and other specific topics.

Our TEC Fellows have gone on to do great things both in school and afterwards, using their TEC summers as a springboard to found companies of their own, join True companies, work at other startups and become part of larger technology companies. We look forward with much enthusiasm to working with this year’s class of Fellows and have every expectation that they will make great contributions to our portfolio—and to the startup ecosystem as a whole—both during the summer of 2013 with us and then over the course of their careers beyond as well.
